Covering the fall of 1963 to the spring of 1965. Through relentless direct action, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and its young chairman, John Lewis, continues to force the nation to confront its racism and discrimination. Faced with bombings, beatings, arrests, and death, the SNCC activists and their allies launch a series of innovative campaigns to secure voting rights in the Deep South and press the national Democratic Party and the federal government to live up to their commitments, including: the Freedom Vote, Mississippi Freedom Summer, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and a historic showdown in Selma, Alabama.
