Carolyn MacKenzie's brother, Mack, disappeared ten years ago when he walked out of his apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Every year on Mother's Day he places a phone call to assure their mother he's OK, then hangs up. Even the death of their father on 9/11 does not bring him home or break the pattern of his calls. Now twenty-six, and a law school graduate, Carolyn becomes determined to find her brother and discover what has happened to him, despite her mother's disapproval. Carolyn's search leads her into a deadly confrontation with someone close to her whose secret he cannot allow her to reveal.
