Julius Lester has created an important book delivered with a personal, playful touch. We all have a story: our favorite foods, hobbies, time of day, and so much more. Race is another piece of our story, but only a part. Lester states that when people say one race is better than another it is an untrue story rooted in fear. A true story is that underneath everyone’s skin is bone and if we all took off our skin we would look the same. This powerful message is delivered in simple, conversational text complimented by vibrant, painted illustrations. This accessible, positive book provides readers with an opportunity to start a conversation about race, what ties us all together, as well as what makes us unique. Ideal for children in elementary school. Highly recommended!
