Deviates so far from the book it should be called something else!

This was a plastic CGI-heavy production which completely misses the magic of the book. Even some stellar actors couldn’t give life to the leaden script. Read the book.

Another version, but not as strong to the story line. Beautiful sets, costumes, etc

There are lovely shots of wonderful English gardens. However, this version completely misses the point of the book. It says that magic can solve all your problems. Whereas the books says work, fresh air and kindness all improve your life and those of the ones you care about. A much better moral for children. I would recommend skipping this version of the movie.

I think this might be my favorite version of The Secret Garden (next to the book, of course). The garden in this movie is unbelievably alive.

Hard to decide who this movie is aimed at - the cinematography is amazing but more something adults would appreciate. The plot points emphasized also are more likely to speak to adults but overall it is a children's movie - if they would enjoy it or not is the question

Disappointing remake of the classic story. I love Colin Firth and Julie Walters, but they were merely bit players in this Disneyfied overwrought adaptation. The children were good actors but I lost interest early on.

this most recent adaptation of a classic book features colin firth and julie waters. there is some artistic license: expected characters omitted, unexpected diversity in the post-war yorkshires, and some added to puzzling effect. the garden is now football pitch sized rather than the expected intimate space.
this matters only if you've read the book, the children don't do anything to the garden, which is supposed to be the whole point.
not sure who the intended target audience is, do children still like this sort of story? as a grownup i enjoyed the costuming and set decoration.
