On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It's a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed. But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride's oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast. And then someone turns up dead. Who didn't wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

For all the hype, I didn't like this book. Very contrived. A wedding but Not One Happy Person.

It's a shame trees were destroyed to print this book. I guess I have gotten to expect a better written story.

Another recent novel told from multiple perspectives - this time, 6 - with the names of each at the top of each relatively short chapter. Each of the perspectives is told in the first person, present tense, so there is no jarring transition with verb tenses. There is also a smooth transition of stories as each of the characters' revelations build on the previous character's story. All of the characters are together to celebrate the marriage of their best friends at their posh island wedding on a small island off the west coast of Ireland. The reader gets to know these characters by what they tell us about themselves and what they reveal about their inner thoughts about events in their lives and their past interactions with the other characters. Their past lays the basis for their thoughts of revenge, all aimed at one character. The dialogue that is present has just too much smutty language strewn in it for my liking, but perhaps the author feels that is how her characters would talk in reality. It takes awhile for the suspension and tension to grow as the author reveals the true nature of her seemingly successful and "beautiful" people. The ending has an unexpected, surprising twist. While none of the characters are sympathetic, the story is a good one with many underlying themes.

The book held my attention, I was interested in how it would end. Although I figured out the ending about midway through, that is, who the murderer was and why. The victim was also pretty obvious to me. I read it to the finish to see if I was right, and I was. So to me this was a so-so story.

It flipped back and forth a lot but it was informative and interesting.
Lots of secrets revealed.

55 pages later, they still are trying their wedding outfits and figuring out their relationships. I don’t know who’s the audience for this book. It sounds like a teenager read (giggling “boys”), but describes sex scenes. So boring and disconcerting. Bizarre. I gave it up after those 55 pages. On another note, what’s wrong with all these latest releases? I started and gave up so many books published in 2020.

Enjoyable who-done-it. Very atmospheric. I was once stranded for a night on an island off the west coast of Ireland due to a storm, and I can tell you that part of the story was quite accurate.

Fun, quick read. Keeps you guessing. Refreshing to read a book like this once in awhile.

Disturbing is the word that best describes this book. I've never read anything by this author and I won't read any of her other books. I love a good mystery, but the characters all have such a dark side that it made for a very uncomfortable read.

I could not put this book down, I started it on my lunch break and read all the way home and didn’t eat until it was finished. I was floored by how little I predicted and how many surprises there were at the end. I was expected one, and they just kept coming. Some of the “stags” or groomsmen blurred together a bit, but the rest of the characters were unique and easy to keep track of. Each chapter is from a different person’s perspective, and it was nice to have their names at the beginning of each one to keep them straight. This book started out on more of a gentle pace, but then it’s a riot right till the end.
