The photos in this book are almost breathtaking in color and focus of many beautiful butterflies. That is probably the best reason to check this one out. The book also has some helpful information about various caterpillars and what plants they feed on. I didn't always agree with the author based on my personal experience with my own butterfly garden. Butterfly cassia just as senna is a host plant for Orange Barred Sulphur. What is a little bit of a let-down is the paucity of info on butterflies in Florida, a subject the writer dismisses due to the state's huge variety of climate conditions and numerous butterflies to focus on. A few widely seen butterflies deserved mention, like the zebra longwing, the Florida's state butterfly, Monarchs, the Gulf Fritillary and a number of other regulars. It is one of those books once you check out, you don't spend all that much time with it.

Good mix of photographs and information, I appreciate that the book includes specific information for the Portland metro area.
