Mississippi during the 1960s: Skeeter, a southern society girl, returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends' lives, and a small Mississippi town, upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen, Skeeter's best friend's housekeeper, is the first to open up, to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community.

This is an excellent movie on pretty much all fronts. Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Emma Stone provide amazing performances. The script is incredibly well-written and executed. The pacing, cutting, and shooting all work out very very well. Do yourself and your family a favor and enjoy a wonderful movie night.

Because of the subject matter it's hard say was a good movie. But it was I enjoyed this movie it made me choke up few times. It was amazing how these women were able to handle all that stress they were going through.

Really liked this movie and it follows the book pretty well. All of the performances were great. I do recommend reading the book.

The movie puts you into a different world where you forget about the cast doing the performance and feel like you are looking at something in a different era. When I looked at the cast I was surprised to learn these are the same actresses in Jurassic World (Bryce Dallas Howard), LA LA Land (Emma Stone), and Molly's Game (Jessica Chastain). I hardly recognize any of these actresses in the movie, their hair-styles, costumes, mannerisms in how they blended in to this period-piece was virtually seamless. The yellowish colour palette is also lovely. This is just very much well maid (no pun intended). Also, the story is just hilarious the way these actress portray vain white southern Americans during the time. Has a deep social commentary, but again, as most movies, probably sanitized compared to the brutal reality and time-period depicted. However, it's one of the most light-hearted type of movies that I have seen covering such a serious issue that it's almost borderline comedy, like how Green Book is.

Wonderful movie. LOVED it!

An often very funny movie set in a terribly non-funny time and place. Quite the moving film. It's a must-see film.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Putting feces in someone's food is an act of violence and potentially life-threatening, yet it's treated as funny. Could give pranksters, unaware of the dangers of e-coli bacteria, ideas.
